Misuzu Tanaka opens Historical Piano Concerts’ 39th fall season in her sixth appearance on the series.

ASHBURNHAM — Historical Piano Concerts’ 39th fall season will open Sunday, Sept. 1, with works by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff, played by pianist Misuzu Tanaka, in her sixth appearance on the series.

The 3 p.m. concert will take place at New Dawn Arts Center, the Ashburnham Community Church building, located at 84 Main St. (Route 12), at the corner of Chapel Street.

For the concerts on Sundays, Sept. 1 and Sept. 8, the featured piano from The Frederick Collection of Historical Pianos, is the 1907 Blüthner concert grand of Leipzig, Germany – a make popular with Russian pianists and composers. Tanaka’s all-Russian program includes Tchaikovsky’s Dumka; Rachmaninoff’s Moments musicaux, and a transcription for piano of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. Continue reading
